Truckstop Preachers 5/2/09 @ Puckett's
Just found this one the other day! If you’re not going to our show in Snug Harbor and want to grease it up with some rockabilly instead then check out this show featuring the Truckstop Preachers and King Kitty and the Whistling Skulls @ Puckett’s Farm Equipment!
Tremont Music Hall
5/1/09 A Hero A Fake, A Stained Glass Romance, Labyrinthe and Cast the First Stone- Tight fitting jeans and vicious circle pits will be the order of the day when A Hero A Fake comes to Tremont with A Stained Glass Romance, Labyrinthe and Cast The First Stone. These all ages moshfest have become a trademark show for the Tremont but I’m wondering for how much longer. I have heard that Tremont is going to soon succumb to the pressure to become an 18+ club. If that happens look for an end to the all ages shows like this one. Get it while you can and have fun! Doors are at 8pm and it’s $8 for over 21 and $11 for under.
Snug Harbor
5/2/09 Stillnotdead Invades Snug Harbor featuring Bum’s Lie, IED and Razorkat- I finally come back to my old neighborhood of Plaza Midwood

Come out to our party on 5/2/09 @ Snug Harbor!
and I thought I would bring some friend’s with me! Bum’s Lie bring a great reggae/ska vibe and will have the crowd jumping, IED bring politically charged ska/ hardcore and I would highly recommend coming early so you can catch the official club debut of brand new punk band Razorkat! It’s gonna be a great night of music and fun and I hope to see you all there! It’s only $5 bucks and the first band starts at 10pm so be there early!! See you there!
The Milestone Club
5/2/09 Valient Thorr, Caltrop and 2013 Wolves- Across town at the Milestone Club they turn the rock up to 11 with this heavy rock bill! Valient Thorr bring space rock at the highest order with out there lyrics and heavy as hell music that will rock the Ghetto Fortress. Caltrop pack a Sabbath type sludge that the crowd will eat up and 2013 Wolves will start the festivities with their patented riff heavy instrumental madness. Doors are at 8pm and tickets are $10 for over 21 and $12 for under.
The Visulite Theater
4/29/09 Enter The Haggis- This celtic rock band from Canada have slowly built up quite a following with non stop touring all over North America. They’ve appeared on Live with Regis and Kelly and Out of Ireland. If you are a fan of celtic rock this is a can’t miss show. If you dig Floggin Molly or the Dropkick Murpheys and want to take it a step further in authenticity check out this show. Doors are at 8pm and admission is $10.
Note- I just found out the Zombie Walk is still on in Myrtle Beach despite the wildfires raging in N. Myrtle. The food collected as admission to the show will now go toward the people who have lost their houses in the fire so if you’re going be sure to load up on canned food for the show!! Thanks to Riot Girl Entertainment for the head’s up!
Also I just read this blog on my good friend and leader of Rogue Nations, Chris Peigler’s Myspace page. Check it out to learn what happened to a good friend of Chris’. I can’t stand shit like this and she needs our support so show some love! Here is the address: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=1512418&blogId=485083706
Thought I would mention that there is a FREE show tonight! Check it out!!

New venue, FREE show!
Wow, this week we have almost more music going on than I could cover! This week there are legends galore coming to town and we cover music all the way from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach where the sun seekers may get overrun with the living dead! Now on with the music!
The Milestone Club
4/23/09 The Lights Fluorescent, Jew(s) and Catholic(s) and The Bronzed Chorus- The Milestone Club starts out a jam packed weekend with this indie triple bill. The Lights Fluorescent may be one of Charlotte’s best live bands. Also they are probably the most criminally ignored bands in the city. I doubt Creative Loafing even knows they exist but they are a brilliant band and deserve to be checked out. This night they are playing with Jews and Catholics & The Bronzed Chorus. Doors are at 8pm and admission is $6 for over and $8 for under 21.
4/24/09 The Meatmen with American Speedway and Planet Piss- Yet another legendary band plays the Milestone! The Meatmen formed in Michigan in ‘81 and are fronted by Tesco Vee of Touch and Go Fanzine Fame. One of the most original and outrageous bands of the funny punk genre. Nothing is sacred and that is still the truth when it comes to this outrageous (albeit older) band. Also playing are greasy rockers, American Speedway and Charlotte’s own outrageous ( and mostly naked) punk band Planet Piss. Expect and outlandish and crazy night from this trio of bands. Doors are at 8pm and admission is $12. 18 + only.
4/25/09 Andy the Doorbum’s Birthday party!- It’s everyone’s favorite doorbum’s birthday so Milestone is throwing him a party! As far as I know he isn’t playing but everyone else seems to be as the theme of this night is a duo-thon in honor of Andy. The Houstons, 2013 Wolves, The Have and the Havenots, Battle Beast and the Holy Smokes are among the players on this bill, but the real treat is a rare appearance by David Childers who will be playing a set with Randy Saxon of the Modern Day Don Juans. Also rumored to be appearing are the non- duo of PPR. That’s a shit ton of music for $5! ($7 if you are under!) Doors are at 8pm.
4/26/09 River City Rebels w/ The Fishnet Stalkers, South Side Punx and Aaron of Revolution Radio- Rounding out a great weekend of music is this awesome show featuring the River City Rebels. RCR are a punk/ americana band with a great sound and unlike last time they were here, I’m assured they will be with a full band! Accompanying them will be the Fishnet Stalkers, a DC/ Baltimore band with a garage/punk vibe and a ton of riffs. Also playing are the kings of Charlotte street punk, the South Side Punx and the always awesome Aaron of Revolution Radio. Nowadays Aaron rocks the solo acoustic route but it’s absolutely awesome so get there early! Doors are at 8pm and cover is $7.
The Visulite Theater
4/24/09 Southern Culture on the Skids w/ the Malamondos- It’s been a long time since “Walk like a Camel” came out but SCOTS continues to tour the earth with their own unique take on trailer park chic. Flying the white trash flag and possibly being the only show where you may get hit with a chicken bone, SCOTS continues to be a favorite of the tour circuit and will no doubt be fun this time as well! Doors are at 8pm and SCOTS go on at 10pm. Opening are the Malamondos. Admission is $16 in advance and $18 day of show.
Neighborhood Theater
4/29/09 Dinosaur Jr. w/ Mike Watt and the Missingmen- 90’s legends Dinosaur Jr. have announced they will be putting out a new album this summer! Grunge guitarist of the world are estatic and they should be. Jay Mascis was the poster boy for any guitarist who didn’t want to be Metallica in the early 90’s and influenced countless musicians. The other reason I mentioned this show is that the opening act is none other than the legendary Mike Watt and the Missingmen. Mike Watt was a member of legendary punk band, the Minutemen and also played in Firehose. Most recently he played bass for Iggy and the Stooges reunion tour. I’ve caught Mike Watt’s solo shows twice and found that he is not only a fantastic musician but a really great, nice guy to talk with. This should be a great show! Doors are at 7pm and admission is $23 in advance and $26 at the door.
Snug Harbor
4/22/09 Junior Astonomers and Heypenny- I caught Junior Astronomers at the Charlotte Local Music Showcase and they were outstanding. I don’t even know how to describe their music except intense with great vocals. Look them up on myspace to see what I’m talking about. Opening are Heypenny. Show starts at 10pm.
Alley Cat (Downtown)

Kill the Music Book Release Party!
4/25/09 Kill the Music Book release party- Later this weekend we should have dueling book reviews of Kill the Music by Michael G. Plumides, Jr. It tells the tale of the 4808 club, a legendary music club in Charlotte most famous for being raided because of a Gwar show. To celebrate the release of the book they are throwing a book release party at Alley Cat in Charlotte. There will be a book signing from 8-9pm followed by a show. The concert portion features Something About Vampires and Sluts, Leisure McCorkle and The Independents. It will also feature assorted flame eaters and other eccentricities courtesy of Single Cell Productions. The entire thing is a benefit for Americansforhearts.org and admission is a $10 minimum donation. The signing is from 8-9pm and the show starts afterwards.
The Club House Myrtle Beach, SC
4/25/09 Second Annual Myrtle Beach Zombie Walk- Last year this was a big sucess and this year should be no different. Myrtle Beach will once again be over run by an army of undead. Starting at 2pm you can become zombified by professional makeup artist on site. There’s gonna be tatoo contest, games and raffles hosted by the Grand Strand Roller Derby Girls plus nonstop horror films by Kluckin Films. The actual show will feature a who’s who of horrorpunk and punk featuring Insides Out, The Body Bags, Rictus Grim, The Shotdowns, Blood Red River, The Baboon Brigade and the Villians. Admission is 3 or more canned food items and all donations go to the Lowcountry Food Bank. For more info check out www.myspace.com/mbzombiewalk2009.
That’s all for this week. I meant to talk about the Charlotte Local Music Showcase this past week but didn’t get time because I’ve been trying to get together relief efforts for the members of Murder Media whose house burned down over the weekend. Check out the blog before this one for more details on that. If you want to help drop me a line at ryan@stillnotdead.com.
I’ll probably post a small blog later today with some news and tidbits in it and a FREE show that is taking place this weekend! I’m also still taking applications for you to be able to blog on here. Drop me a line and I’ll give you details on how you could have your own column on Stillnotdead.com! See you guys soon!!
Ryan Dead
This past monday the house of three members of Murder Media’s house burnt down. It was a total loss with only their dog surviving the fire. The band member’s were away playing a show at New Brooklyn Tavern at the time but they lost everything they have.
In response to this Stillnotdead has decided to gather clothes and supplies to take to them. If you can think of it, they probably need it. T-shirts, jackets, coats, pants (mens size 30-34), shoes, hats, etc. Amber and I will probably take the first load down to Columbia SC this weekend so if you want to donate something, get in touch with me. You can reach me at ryan@stillnotdead.com.
If you have extra clothes please help. These guys lost everything and a lot of you have been to or played a show with this band. It’s times like this that the local music community needs to band together to help one of our own. Hopefully we can do something positive to help these guys get back on their feet!

Yikes a bear!!

Basically Straight Up Productions presents Bear Attack with 20 Eyes, Ill Will, No Honor Lost and the Not Likelys @ The Bleeding Heart Tatoo Studio in Hickory, NC. Start time is at 7pm and admission is $6 bucks. The address is on the bottom of the flyer, so mapquest it and check out this killer show!!

Btw, I’m looking for other people to contribute to this column! If you go to shows alot and want to talk about it, drop me a line at ryan@stillnotdead.com!

MDC comes to the Milestone 4/14/09!
Lots of metal shows this week and heavy stuff in general. Couldn’t find many flyers this week, not good, bands need to promote their shows better!! Anyway, off the soap box, time to get to it!
The Milestone Club
4/14/09 MDC w/ Embrace the Kill and Dirty South Revolutionaries- As I mentioned the other day, this show will be wild! MDC can stand for various things such as Millions of Dead Cops or Multinational Death Corporations but the intent is the same. Brutal hardcore legends MDC don’t pull any punches and I wouldn’t expect Embrace the Kill or local wildmen Dirty South Revolutionaries to pull any punches either! Expect a huge sonic assault at this show and a brutal pit!! Doors are at 8pm and admission is $10.
4/17/09 500 Memphis w/ The Canyoneros, The Smokers and Evelynn Rose- This should be a good night of Country and southern rock. 500 Miles to Memphis walk the path of classic country mixed with a modern punk twist. The rest of the bill also walk to line from garage, country tinged rock to a rowdier southern rock. Should be a great night. Doors are at 8pm and admission is $6 for over 21 and $8 for under.
4/19/09 Anal Cunt 20th Anniversary tour w/ Wretched, Strong Intention, Zeus- I remember when I ran the Milestone Club back in 1996. I remember Anal Cunt back then too. I remember Tremont wouldn’t book them because of their name, which to their credit is still just as controversial. Amazingly 20 years later they are still here and touring the Earth. Now they bring their insanity to the Milestone. Also on the bill are Wretched, Strong Intention and Charlotte’s Zeus. Heavy isn’t the word for this show. Anal Cunt are known for their crazy lyrics. Lyrics so out there that it’s an ongoing discussion on forums around the country as to how much they actually believe in their own lyrics. If you are a fan it’ll be fun. If you’ve never heard them, you might better prepare yourself before you expose yourself to the insanity! Doors are at 8pm and admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
Amos Southend
4/15/09 Musical Mayhem’s Travelin Rock n Roll Burlesque Review- So what if it’s tax day. Relief your stress from dealing with Uncle Sam by going to this rocking show. The musical acts are the Belmont Playboys, Charlotte’s kings of greaser rock and The Hot Rods. Also featured is the Pretty Things Peepshow featuring the girls of Suicide Girls. Hot rockabilly, half naked girls and cold beer, sounds like the perfect cure for tax day blues!! Doors are at 8pm and tix are $10 in advance and $12 at the door!
4/19/09 Black Label Society w/ Sevendust- What is it with all the metal shows in town this week? Then we have BLS and Anal Cunt on the same night? Craziness! For those who don’t know Zakk Wylde is the former/ current guitarist of Ozzy Osbourne. Black Label Society is Zakk’s band and they rock really hard. I caught them at Ozzfest a few years ago and they were totally awesome! Sevendust are also a favorite of the local metal touring circuit and relentless road warriors. This will be a great show for local headbangers to check out! Doors open at 7pm and tix are $30 in advance and $35 day of show.

I just got this flyer from myspace.com. They had a punk vs. greaser show in Raleigh and I heard it was a blast. Who thinks we should do one in Charlotte?

I forgot to mention this one! It ain’t for the faint of heart! Legendary hardcore band MDC play the milestone club on April 14th! With them is the Dirty South Revolutionaries and Embrace the Kill. Expect a huge sonic assault at this show. It’s at the Milestone and it’s 10 dollars if I’m not mistaken!!
Welcome to our brand new version of Next Week! I decided to start doing it like this in order to make it more interactive for you guys and a little easier for me. Now you can subscribe to this column and leave comments. I may add more goodies later but now on with the music!
The Visulite Theater
4/11/09 Charlotte Local Music Showcase- The Charlotte Production Group presents this excellent lineup of bands crossing a lot of genres to showcase some of the best that Charlotte has to offer. It’s a charity event for the muzak heart & soul foundation, a charity that helps aspiring students achieve their musical dreams. Plus it’s a great networking event. There will be an unprecedented amount of Charlotte promoters and bookers at this show so it will be a great chance for your band to gain exposure as the promoters are going to have booths set up where you can meet them and learn more about what they do. The music industry booths include Triple S Booking and Promotion, FFM Promotions, UNCC 318, J&T Music Promotion, Creative Loafing and yes, Stillnotdead.com will be there too! So come and touch base with promoters and help you band find it’s way onstage in Charlotte. As if that weren’t enough, There’s also going to be a great sampler of Charlotte live music as well. Bands include Order of Chaos, a really heavy southern band, The Omega Cell, who play industrial rock, Transmission Fields, are an interesting power pop band that are relatively new to the scene, Junior Astronomers, a great up and coming indie band, Crossfire, who play blues and rock and of course, The Not Likelys, who will bring their 3rd wave ska influenced punk to the show. It’s a great cause and a huge event so hopefully I’ll have plenty of you out to keep me company at our Stillnotdead Booth!! Doors open at 7pm and the first band starts at 7:30, come out and enjoy the night! Admission is $10.
Snug Harbor
4/10/09 Lamb Handler, New Killer Stars- Lamb Handler are continuing to rock the earth in support of their new cd ” Jingle Jangle”, which adds some country tinge to their distinctive rock sound. Definite good stuff! Also on the card at Snug is New Killer Stars, a band from Leeuwarden, Friesland Netherlands. These guys have a great ’90’s indie rock sound to me that is part garage/ part indie with a touch of punk. I really dig it! Should be a really fun night! Show starts at 10pm!
Neighborhood Theater
4/11/09 Dubconscious w/ Collective Efforts- Dubconscious brings their Dub dancehall flavored reggae to the Neighborhood Theater. If I wasn’t at the Local Music Showcase I would go check this show out. As their name suggest, they play great dub flavored dancehall reggae. It tends to be a little hippy tinged but they always get the dance floor moving with their beats and melodies. Collective Efforts open. Doors are at 8pm and the admission is $10
The Milestone Club
4/10/09 Andy the Doorbum cd release party with Lisas Sons and KP Soloman 5000- What can I say, this is a HIGHLY anticipated release by Andy the Doorbum. We’ve been hearingabout this cd for months and now it’s finally time for it to hit the streets. For those who don’t know Andy the Doorbum is a Charlotte original who plays acoustic guitar with the fury of a death metal assault. Not singer songwriter type stuff. Maybe a little like early Beck, if he took huge hits of meth. Definitely tip your local doorbum! Opening is KP Soloman 5000 who you may know as Kyle from 25 Minutes to Go. Kyle is a more traditional songwriter than Andy and puts on a great live show. Check out Stillnotdead TV for a video of KP playing at his debut show! Also playing is Lisas Sons, who seem to specialize in Ween style assaults of casio keyboards. Doors are at 8 and the cost is $3 for over 21 and $5 for under 21.
Well that’s it for the new edition of Next Week! Hope you liked it! If you have a show coming up send me your flyer and I’ll talk about it in the column! Be sure to check back as I may post additional updates during the week occasionally! Be sure to leave me a comment and let me know what you think!! Thanks and we’ll talk to you next time!!
