Hey what’s up!! Sorry this is going out late but I’ve been on the run the last couple days. It’s all in preparation for our annual Punk Rock Picnic!! This is the 3rd one overall and the 2nd that Stillnotdead has been involved in. It’s super cool that the brain child of John Austin of the Not Likelys could mutate into the multi stage spectacle that will invade Tremont Music Hall this Saturday! But before I get to talking about that show there are several other shows I would like to mention, let’s get to it!!
Over at the Milestone Club this Friday August the 13th they play host to Prayers for Atheists, The Thought Criminals and Height with Friends. Everyone knows I’m all for variety, I love having different sounds on a show as I think it opens people up to checking out bands they wouldn’t have normally paid attention to. That is definitely the case with this show. Prayer for Atheists from Providence, RI were explained to me as a punk band and I can see the influence. Honestly they remind me more of Rage Against the Machine but that is a compliment coming from me. They are definitely passionate about what they do and the lyrics are personal and in your front face. Height with Friends from Baltimore, Maryland are underground/ indie hip hop who mix unusual sounds and melodies with heavy beats. There is definitely alot going on under the hood with these guys and it can be hypnotizing and at other times odd beats throw me off a little, but they should put on a fun live show. Speaking of fun live shows, anyone who knows me knows I love the Thought Criminals. This live band hip hop unit from Charlotte by way of Kannapolis produce massive songs with massive hooks and a wealth of lyrical brilliance. This show though there may be an added bonus for coming out. Mikal Khill has made a way to play his Nintendo. With any luck he’ll debut his Nintendo/ instrument at the show tonight. Be there and see history! Doors are at 8:00pm and admission is $7 for over 21 and $8 for under 21. 18 + only please.
If you are still ready to party after the Punk Rock Picnic 3 head over to our other home away from home, the Milestone Club. This Saturday night they feature The Fishnet Stalkers , with Rekless Youth and Bracing for Impact. This should be an excellent melodic punk show and it would make an excellent after party for PRP!
When you think of Friday the 13th you think of Jason, you know from the movie Friday the 13th. You know the unrelenting, brutal, undying juggernaut
who comes back again and again, destroying everything in his path. Well this Friday August 13th, Snug Harbor host Charlotte’s version of Jason, the one and only ANTiSEEN with Self Made Monsters and Biggy Stardust & His Wretched Hive. You see ANTiSEEN have been haunting the music scene for over 25 years and show no signs of slowing down. Like Jason they’re brutal and unrelenting and I actually think Jeff could take Jason in a fight, as long as there was barbed wire involved. Also on the bill are long running Charlotte garage rock band Self Made Monsters, who have been around the scene for an extremely long time and the newly reformed Biggy Stardust and His Wretched Hive. This should be a show of monstrous proportions and it ain’t for the weak or meek so don’t say you ain’t been warned….
That brings us to the Tremont Music Hall. This Friday the 13th they have the annual Feast of St. Claires which is a benefit to support Loaves and Fishes. This is actually the third annual feast and this years lineup includes the Trouble Walkers, Leadville Social Club and Lost Souls Traveling Show, which was formerly known as the Holy Smokes. This should be a great event and if you bring a can food or non-perishable food item then you’l get a dollar off entry into the event. Doors are at 8pm and admission is $8 or $7 with a can food or perishable food item. Plus there is a $3 surcharge for under 21.
This brings us to the event I have been working my ass off this week to get ready for, the 3rd annual Punk Rock Picnic!! It takes place this Saturday August 14th at Tremont Music Hall. This started out several years ago as the brain child of John Austin of the Not Likelys and has evolved into a huge event that Stillnotdead throws every year. Last year Tremont got on board and were not only gracious host but the show kicked ass as well. This year we’re following the same formula as last year where early on we’ll have bands on the Stillnotdead side stage in the bar room of Tremont as well as burgers and hot dogs cooked up for us by the Summer of Meat! As the night goes on the action will switch to the Casbah stage in Tremont and finish the night out with the loudest party in Charlotte. There are a few things you should know about this show. First, when the food is runs out, that’s it. In other words, if you want to take part in the free food, you have to come out early! The doors open at 5:30 and the first band starts at 6:15. The food should be ready sometime during the first set. So if you want to grub, come out early!! Second, there is NO SURCHARGE for under age. The price of the show is $8, whether you’re 16 or 26 SAME PRICE. You’re welcome. Third, the schedule for the show will be posted at the door, day of show.
Now let’s take a look at the bands on this years shows! King Sized Killers are making their Stillnotdead debut this year and it’s also going to be their cd release show (hopefully!) so be sure to check out this hard rocking punk band from over toward Asheville, NC. If you dig them let me know, they could appear on future shows. Gruppe 36 contains former/ current members of IED, Carrion Bomb and Brotherhood of the Bomb, and play an explosive (pun intended) mix of street punk with a little metal around the edges. It’s powerful stuff and bound to get the crowd moving! Jojo Taterhead Revival rose from the ashes of the DSC Crew and played their Charlotte debut show at PRP2. They were a huge success, playing to a massive crowd and getting them moving with their kick ass ska sound. This year be ready to dance again! PEN15 are making their SND debut with this show but they are certainly no strangers to me. They used to play the Milestone Club when I ran it in the mid 90’s. This british punk fronted band have a treasure trove of catchy, fun party songs and will have the crowd singing along in no time! I was thrilled when 25 Minutes to Go agreed to play the picnic this year and even happier when they revealed to me that they have something special in mind for this show. What you may ask? Can’t tell you, I’m sworn to secrecy, you’ll have to show up to see what the masters of the ancient kung fu art of “Bladow” have planned. Playing their 2nd year in a row with the Picnic is the Rogue Nations. This local power trio features members/ former members of Obstruction, The Poontanglers and My So Called Band. They’re known for their powerful riffs as well as their socio/political satirist lyrics. Yet another band making it’s SND debut this night is the Lesser Pauls. I’ve wanted these guys ( and girl) to play one of our shows ever since they debuted in Charlotte. They managed to remind me of Sonic Youth and Jefferson Airplane at the same time and singer Kenni Falls vocals even occasionally remind me of PJ Harvey. Last but not least is IED. This ska core band has been a favorite on the Charlotte scene for years and finally came out with a debut cd late last year. They never fail to rock out and with this being Punk Rock Picnic, I’m sure you can expect great things from them.
Well that wraps it up, the other important things you need to know is that doors are at 5:30 and the first bands starts at 6:15. This show is all ages and there is once again, NO SURCHARGE for under 21. So for $8 bucks you get 8 great bands and free food. Also there is a small chance that I will be giving out freebies like I did last year so be on the lookout! It don’t get any better than that! Hope to see you all at the show!!
Thanks for the support!

Love em or Hate em, they don't care..
Rekless Youth come out of the gates swinging on their new cd titled “Love Me Hate Me”. The title track seems to take direct aim at their critics with lyrics like “Love Me Hate Me see if I care/ You can’t change me, I’m already there!”. The theme continues in the next song although I’m not crazy about the verses style of delivery. It comes a little too close to Blondie’s rap in “Rapture”. Themes of love and personal freedom continue throughout this cd and the guys manage to deliver 6 songs in just over 20 minutes. I really like “Love Me Hate Me”, it’s catchy, jangly and fresh but while not bad, I don’t think the rest of the cd ever measures up to the opening track. Don’t get me wrong, all the songs production and playing wise are tight and I won’t take anything away from their talent but the opening track is such a killer, catchy song that the rest of the cd never catches up. On and record called “Love Me Hate Me” I don’t think it will do much to sway you either way. If you already love Rekless Youth it definitely won’t turn you off but if you hate them, it’s not gonna necessarily win you over either, except for the title track which my be pop punk gold straight outta Charlotte!

Hope you guys are enjoying the new format of Stillnotdead.com. It was a long time coming and I’m glad we finally got it up and running! I’m still sitting on some HUGE news that I haven’t been cleared to report on yet but trust me, when the time comes I’m gonna let it fly. Now on to the shows!
Tremont Music Hall- Nekromantix, Blitzkid and Rekless Youth 12/6/09- Fresh off a tour with Rob Zombie, The Nekromantix are back! Call it goth-a-billy, psychobilly or whatever you call it, it’s a high energy slap bass good time. The lyrics tend to be about things that go bump in the night and the hair cuts tend to stand straight up like a hatchet but what did you expect from a band that has a song called “Horny in a Hearse”? Also on the bill are Blitzkid, who sound mostly goth to me. Not so much psychobilly or even rockabilly in my opinion. These guys have more in common with Concrete Blonde than the Nekromantix but that’s my opinion. In the meantime our own Rekless Youth find themselves in the position of opening this horror fest. I gotta tell you I really like their new song “Love Me Hate Me” off of the cd of the same name. It should be a fun night at the ole Tremont. Doors are at 7pm and admission is $12 in advance and $14 at the door, plus $3 for under 21. Btw, it’s all ages.
Tremont Music Hall- GWAR, Job for a Cowboy, The Red Chord 12/9/09- The mighty GWAR return to Tremont with a road show that has no equal. I could waste my time talking about their music but who am I kidding? You don’t go to a GWAR show to listen to the music. You go to get covered in fake blood as the Pope, George Bush and other celebrities get fed into a wood chipper or meat grinder. Trust me, if you are shaking your head while reading the above description then you should just stay away from this show. It’s rock theater with a love of gore and social parody and don’t think you’re safe in the back of the room. Last I heard they had “blood cannons” that will soak you all the way to the back of the room! Don’t say you weren’t warned! Job for a Cowboy and the Red Chord open. Doors are at 7:30 and admission is $20 in advance and $24 at the door, plus the usual surcharge. Also it’s all ages.

NC Throwdown Fest 4
Volume 11 Tavern, Raleigh NC- NC Throwdown Fest 4- 12/12/09- Here is a roadtrip worth making. The guys from Shotdown promotions put together one hell of a punk rock/ hardcore show featuring just about every big band from the Charlotte scene. The show features The Dead Kings, 25 Minutes to Go, Destroyed Tradition, Black out the Sky, The Shotdowns, Shoot First, Jonny and the Breaknecks, Rekless Youth, IED, Hate the State, Line in March and Skid Marx on a huge show that hopefully will pack out Volume 11 Tavern. Doors are at 2:30 so if you’re road tripping you better get started early. Admission is $10.

Misfits at Amos Southend
Amos Southend- The Misfits w/ Graveyard Boulevard and the Body Bags 12/10/09- What’s with all the goth- horror bands coming through at the same time?? First we had Nekromantix and Blitzkid earlier this week and now we have the originators of the genre, the Misfits playing Amos. As you know the Misfits are horror punk legends even if they’ve went through enough line up changes to make your head spin. It will still be fun to hear the greatest hits. Also on the show is Graveyard Boulevard and The Body Bags, both local horror punk bands that owe there very existence to the Misfits. Should be a creepy fun night, sort of like the Nightmare before Christmas! Doors are at 7:30 and admission is $19.50 in advance and 22.50 day of show. Also an all ages show!
Visulite Theater- Jah Schools Benefit 12/11/09- This is a worth while benefit that works to bring school supplies to children in need. It features a great lineup of local acts all rocking out for charity. The show includes Group Therapy, The Lesser Pauls, Quantum Foundry, Bums Lie, One Big Love, K-Baz, Troy Conn Trio and Chalwa. Come rock the night away at this great benefit event! Doors open at 8pm and admission is $8 in advance and $10 day of show. 18+ only please.

A viking metal christmas??? WTF? Oh well it's sponsored by High Life so it can't be bad!
Visulite Theater- Iron Cordoba: A Very Horny Christmas 12/12/09- I don’t have any idea what this party will be like. I would expect pretty wild judging from the flyer. I would probably guess sitting on Santa’s lap will be at your own risk. It also features the Gore-A-Licious Girls, Sinful Strip Teases and Mistress Collette’s Brutal Holiday Torture. Plus evil holiday sounds by DJ Torch. The party starts at 9pm and in case you haven’t guessed it, I had to mention it because the show is sponsored by Miller High Life, The Champagne of Beers!! 18+ definitely. Admission is $10 unless you bring a blanket or coat to donate and then it’s $8.

Santa???
Snug Harbor- Izzy and the Kesstronics, Razorkat and When it Hits 12/13/09- It’s another Sunday night Snug Harbor with 3 kick ass bands for $3 bucks. Some of you may remember Izzy of Izzy and the Kesstronics from Uncle Fucker or as the guitarist of Wayne the Train Hancock. What matters most is that he is one mean guitar playing SOB. With a rock meets honky tonk vibe and a boast full style expect him to party hard and throw down on the guitar. Razorkat are a hard rocking punk band fairly new to the Charlotte scene. Neither of their guitarist are a slouch either so this should be a fun guitar night. When it Hits aren’t new to the scene but they haven’t been playing as much as we would like either. LeeVai and the boys play some hard rocking punk ala Bad Religion and the more shows they play, the happier Charlotte would be. Show starts at 9pm and admission is only $3 bucks.
Well I don’t know what’s up with all these scary ass Christmas themed shows. We have our own coming up in a few weeks. I’ll have more info about that next week. Take care and we’ll see you on the forum and out at the shows! Thanks!!

Okay November is flying by, where the hell did the time go?? Anyway, everybody is heating up for a kick ass weekend before everyone heads out for Thanksgiving, let’s take a look at it in this addition of Next Week!
Starting off I would like to mention a few shows at the Tremont that are taking place this weekend. First up, if hardcore fans didn’t get enough at the Double Negative show at the Milestone Club then they should get their fill at Tremont Music Hall November 17th when the Narrows (ex-members of Botch) hit the stage with Trap Them, Meth Mountain and Monarchrist. Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. If you are under 21 the usual surcharge applies. Doors are at 7pm.
Do you guys remember Skinny Puppy? I remember hanging out in the upstairs room at Pterodactyl while some goth chicks danced to them. Anyway, long story short they live! And they are playing Tremont Friday November 20th! Anyone longing for the 90’s to make a comeback should go check out this industrial rock legend. It’s all eyeliner and goofy hair again. We won’t tell anyone, promise! Doors are at 8pm and admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
The Milestone Club- The Spins (formerly the Oms), Buck Mountain Stranglers, Matt Kurz One 11/21/09- The Spins weave delicate, flowing melodic songs with dreamy vocals and even more dreamy backing female vocals. Nice floating stuff and then a horn shows up in the middle and I’m

The Spins, Buck Mountain Stranglers, Matt Kurz One and Satan?? 11/21/09
completely surprised. Pretty interesting addition to the Charlotte Indie scene! Last time I reviewed them I mused that the Buck Mountain Stranglers were probably from Plaza Midwood instead of Buck Mountain, like they insist on their website. Now that they have a couple of songs on their website I can almost guarantee my claim. In any case from what I can tell it’s down and dirty PBR filled old country. With a twist that they love the devil apparently, a lot. Opening the show is a genuine oddity that you would only see at the Milestone Club. Matt Kurz One is a one man band who list his body parts as band members on his website. No really for example: His head is listed as vocals, his right hand is listed as strumming guitar, rack toms and ride cymbal, his right foot is snare and bass drums, his left foot is bass guitar and his left hand is forming guitar chords, hi hats, keyboard ( with headstock of guitar). To say you have to see it to believe it is an understatement. He has several videos on his site and after watching them I’m totally psyched to see him play. His music is surprisingly coherent considering the total body workout he puts into it. It’s total garage rock and that’s all good as well. He’s actually not just an oddity although I’m sure he gets plenty of attention for the freakshow aspect of it, he’s actually a pretty good songwriter. So if you have relatives in town for the holiday and you want to blow their mind. Bring them out to the Milestone and let them check out this one man show. Doors are at 8pm and admission is $6 for over and $8 for under. 18+ only please!
Snug Harbor- The Houstons, Overmountain Men and Kenny Roby 11/21/09- Raleigh rock, folkish songwriter Kenny Roby opens this show at Snug Harbor. He takes a dusky voice and an acoustic guitar and does the folk rock thing rather well. Don’t know if he is bringing a band or not.

The Overmountain Men at Snug Harbor 11/21/09!
Guess we’ll see the night of the show. His music tends to be a little laid back though, not really my thing. Next up is the Overmountain Men. I must confess that I’ve been working really closely with the Overmountain Men for the past several months building their webpage. You can check it out at www.overmountainmen.com . Anyway this group features David Childers, who you will remember retired last year, anyway it also features Bob Crawford of the Avett Brothers as well as Bobby Childers and Randy Saxon. The difference with this group according to David is that it’s not a “David Childers band” rather it’s a collaboration among all members of the band. Whatever you call it, it’s upbeat and catchy as hell. I’m not just saying that because I do work with them. I’m addicted to their song “Someplace Along the River”. The Houstons meanwhile will be coming off just playing Tremont two days earlier so I hope the draw goes well for both shows but regardless I’m sure they’ll bring their unique indie vibed rock to end the night well. Come to think of it, they would go really well with the headliner from the Milestone show that I mentioned above. Anyway, the show starts at 10pm and admission is $10.
Snug Harbor- Bums Lie, Machete!, Rekless Youth 11/22/09- If you missed Skalloween ( quite a few of you did btw!) here is your chance to catch 2 out of the four bands that were on that show on a Sunday night Snug Harbor show. Bums Lie won’t be playing Greenday this go round but they will still be playing the mellow, groove inspired reggae that they do so well. Rekless Youth have released a new cd entitled “Love Me, Hate Me” and regardless of which you choose I feel I must point out that they rocked pretty hard at Skalloween, I especially liked the part where the wolfman came out on stage with them! No matter how hard anyone rocks though, Machete! will definitely be the loudest in the house. The wall of sound is massive and even more awe inspiring when you figure out that it’s only a duo producing it! Drums and bass never sounded like something you could end the world with until Machete! came along! Show starts at 9pm and it’s only $3! 18+ only please.
Well that’s it for this edition of Next Week! Come back for the next edition which will likely have two weekends worth since we probably won’t post on Thanksgiving weekend! Till then we’ll see you at the shows or on the forum!
Ryan Dead
Sorry, it’s been hectic around here and I’m running behind. But at least I’ve made it in before the holiday weekend! It’s my favorite time of the year so let’s jump right into it! It’s the Halloween edition of Next Week!!

Zombie attack!! Run!!
If you feel like making a road trip then Ground Zero is the place to begin your Halloween weekend in style. Well maybe not in style, you are at Ground Zero after all, but at least it’ll be interesting based on not only this lovely flyer you see to your left but also the band names. With names like “King Sized Killers and “Rapegoat”, these bands sound custom made for a Halloween show. Btw, Rapegoat features Angus Hung of the Dead Kings so show some love!

Say goodbye to Hickory....There ain't gonna be anything left!
Antiseen w/ 25 Minutes to Go and South Side Punx 10/31/09 @ Drips Coffee House in Hickory, NC- Antiseen singer Jeff Clayton is a Halloween fanatic, hell he’s the only person I know that has as big of an obsession with Godzilla as I do, so it seems appropriate that he and his band mates are called on to rock Halloween into Hickory, NC with style. Break out the barbed wire and get ready for a blood letting as the 25+ year veterans of “destructo-rock” take aim on demolishing Drips Coffee House and the rest of Hickory as well. Not that there may be much left after the openers get done. 25 Minutes to Go are a hard rocking, sing along chorus creating, “Bladow!” screaming outfit of fury and they’re bound to be even more stoked on this night! South Side Punx open the show, if you can believe that! You know how they roll. I’ve never seen a band so capable of getting an audience to go from zero to insane riot levels in the course of one intro to a song. I have to say this is a triple headlining show for the ages and should be a great way to bring in the holiday.

Skalloween 10/31/09 at the Visulite Theater!
Bums Lie & Stillnotdead present: Skalloween featuring Bums Lie, the Not Likelys, IED, Rekless Youth and Stamper 10/31/09 @ Visulite Theater- Bums Lie has been doing Skalloween for 4 years now and this year they invited Stillnotdead in to take part in the tradition! Every year Bums Lie pick a different cd to cover. Last year was “Blood Sugar Sex Magic” by the RHCP, this year it’s Green Day’s “Dookie”. The trick is they will be doing the entire album in a ska/ reggae style. It should be really interesting to see how they alter the songs to fit their style. In addition you get the see a plethora of Charlotte area punk bands. IED are the kings of socio political Ska-core, infusing political lyrics with reggae beats to make a revolution you can truly dance to! The Not Likelys have been described as what Rancid would sound like if they didn’t start sucking and if their pit at Punk Rock Picnic was any indication that’s not a bad description. I know they blast out anthems like few others in town. Rekless Youth are actually using this show as a cd release party for their new cd “Love Me Hate Me”. I haven’t heard it yet but Rekless Youth are known for their tight musicianship and catchy hooks so it should be a good treat to get on Halloween! So come on out, be sure to wear your costume and get ready to celebrate Halloween Stillnotdead style! We’ll see you there! Show starts at 8pm and it’s $10. 18+ only.
That’s it for this edition. I did want to mention two great shows coming up on November 4th and 5th and I’ll give and in depth look at them in the next edition. The first is November 4th at Tremont Music Hall and features Boston’s The Have Nots with Planet Piss, Darken the Sky and Doctor DP & The Trainrunners which features Andy from Andy & The Jivers. The second show is on November 5th at Tremont and features the Mangles, the Smokers and the Necrohippies. Both of those shows are all ages and should be a lot of fun. I’ll talk more about them in the next edition!
I hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween! Hopefully we’ll see you at Skalloween! Till next time, take care!
Ryan Dead
Hey what’s up? It’s been a crazy week but a chill is in the air and October is finally here! With Summer over don’t expect things to slow down, in fact I’m sure they will only get crazier as we head toward my favorite holiday, Halloween! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves it’s time for another edition of “Next Week”!

Oh the colors and Kirby and hey wait?? Is that Jesus?? In red slippers??
The Milestone Club- Emotron, Drink Up Buttercup, LA Tool & Die 10/9/09- Oh man, this whole show will probably come across like one big acid trip. Seriously you wouldn’t have this many synthesizers in room at a Duran Duran/ Flock of Seagulls reunion show! To start with headliner Emotron, who is quite beloved on the Milestone scene, list his Yamaha QY700 sequencer as a band member! Musically he blast out funny, strange songs like ” Michael Jackson’s” dead and “Me and My Black Metal Friends”. Musically he’s talented and from what I’ve heard he’s quite unhinged on stage, who needs a band! They had another band listed on myspace but according to Milestone Drink Up Buttercup of Yep Roc records is playing. These guys will fit right in with the quirkiness of the night only with a little more jangly guitar. These guys have been getting super reviews and thrive on audience interaction so come prepared. They actually got the Best of Philly award from Deli magazine last year. Also on the bill is Charlotte’s own LA Tool & Die. If we didn’t have a show that night across town I would come thank them for getting “Don’t Touch My Mustache” stuck in my freakin head for weeks on end! Basically this Charlotte Indie band is trying to bring new wave in the vein of Devo back and I have to admit, they may succeed! Layers of synth heaven over catchy beats and hilarious whimsical lyrics will start to describe their sound but I think it’s rather impossible to completely describe. You have to experience it. So get on your favorite day glow colored shirt or Michael Jackson jacket and get out to the Milestone Club! Doors are at 8pm and admission is $6 for over 21 and $8 for under. 18+ only please.

Murder Junkies at Milestone Club 10/10/09!
The Milestone Club- Murder Junkies, Planet Piss, Black Out the Sky and Rekless Youth 10/10/09- G.G.’s former backing band the notorious Murder Junkies come around yet again as they continue to try to take advantage of the legacy of their former front man. Obnoxious and disgusting in their stage antics ( last time the drummer stuck a drum stick where the sun don’t shine!), the play hard and nasty punk rock. If you are into it cool, but they ain’t really my cup of tea. In any case they are also playing with Planet Piss who bring a wild stage show of their own. Between Planet Piss and the Murder Junkies there will be way too much male nudity at this show. Also on the bill is Black Out the Sky (formerly Never Again), which is Moss from Dirty South Revolutionaries’ side band. They don’t have songs up on myspace but with Moss in the lead you know what to expect. Also Rekless Youth are on this bill. RY have dazzled critics and built their own fan following but I have to wonder how a band with such a “clean” image is gonna fit in on probably the dirtiest punk bill in town? Who knows they may come out and out dirty everyone! The only way you’ll know is to come check it out! Doors at 8pm Admission is $10 for over 21 ( really??) and $12 for under. 18+ definitely!

Stillnotdead presents: South Side Punx, IED and more!! October 9th at Tremont Music Hall!
Tremont Music Hall- Stillnotdead presents: South Side Punx, IED, Taj Motel Trio, The Nerve Scheme and Andy & The Jivers 10/9/09- Our last party at Tremont was Punk Rock Picnic 2 and it was a blast so we decided to throw another all ages punk/ ska throwdown at Tremont. This time we got South Side Punx, who didn’t get to play PRP, to headline the whole thing. Anyone familiar with Charlotte punk knows SSP are the kings of street punk and will get the crowd rocking with anthemic sing along choruses and pure punk street anthems. IED rocked the house at PRP and are back to continue to push their ska/ hardcore agenda. It’s a revolution you can dance too and be on the lookout, I know for a fact they’ve recorded a new cd and it will be coming out soon! Taj Motel Trio haven’t been to town since our fan appreciation night ska party so it’s gonna be great to have this Athens, Ga ska band back in town! Expect extremely catchy ska from these guys. Last time the crowd was super hyped for these guys so I can’t wait for this time. The Nerve Scheme are a punk band from Virginia that have catchy hooks and a good sense of melody without seeming too poppy. Starting the whole thing off will be Still Not Dead and Charlotte faves, Andy & The Jivers. This Charlotte ska band has been a favorite for years and always get the crowd moving with their catchy hooks and horn lines that local fans have come to love. This should be one hell of a party so bring your dancing shoes and we’ll see you there! Doors are at 8pm and admission is $6 for over 21 and $9 for under. And for a change it’s All Ages!!!

The Dead walk the earth again October 11th. I wonder if Michael Jackson will be there?
3rd Annual Charlotte Zombie Walk- Phil’s New York Deli and Tavern Uptown Charlotte- Ah the chill of fall is in the air and once again the streets of Charlotte will be filled with creatures with only one thought on their mind, preying on the living. No I’m not talking about the bankers! It’s time for Charlotte Zombie Walk again! Badger’s gearing up for his 3rd annual Zombie Walk which will originate from Phil’s New York Deli and Tavern, located on the corner of 5th and Tryon in uptown Charlotte. As usual there will be a Red Cross blood drive going on during the Zombie Walk and a canned food drive to benefit second harvest food bank. What’s new this year is that they are also supporting Costumes for Kids, which raises money to provide Halloween costumes to disabled and less fortunate kids. It’s a lot of great causes and a great excuse to dress up like a Zombie and stalk the streets! There will be people on hand to help with makeup if you aren’t artistically inclined and the blood drive runs noon to 4:30 pm and the actual Zombie Walk is from 2pm til 4pm! Brains!!!
Well that’s it for this edition of Next Week! Look out for later this weekend when I’ll let the cat out of the bag about another big show coming to Charlotte in December. I’m also going to be unveiling the flyer for Skalloween that we are co-promoting with Bum’s Lie on October 31st at the Visulite Theater! Remember send me your flyers and hopefully I’ll see you this weekend at either the Sk Net show with Jojo Taterhead, The Not Likelys, Princess and the Criminals and The Disregardables or at the Dead Kings 10 year anniversary party! See you next time!
Ryan Dead
This coming weekend is gonna be epic! There are some great shows and thanks to the combination of the Wednesday night Snug show and Punk Rock Picnic 2 I think almost every band in the local punk scene will be playing somewhere this coming weekend. Typically I have a cookout at my house on Sunday afternoons, this week I’m bringing my Sunday tradition to you guys. Want to learn more, read on…
The Milestone Club 8/14/09 Snagglepuss, Guam High and Black Lashes- Hope Nicholls has always had a influence on the Charlotte scene. In the 80’s it was Fetchin’ Bones, in the 90’s it was Sugarsmack. For the new millennium the project is Snagglepuss, a rowdy, glammed out party band! Their latest record The Sound Report has been called southern fried pop and unhinged mayhem with a newly revealed appreciationfor the sickly slick radio mainstays of their youth. I think that sums it up for this local supergroup. Although I would add not to take them too seriously because trust me, their tongue is firmly in cheek! Also playing is Guam High, who don’t have any songs or description of their sound on their myspace page! Also on the show is Black Lashes who have even less info on their page. Although both bands pages are very stylish and Black Lashes opened the Penguin July 4th show, so I guess both of those things say quite a bit about the bands right their. Draw your own conclusions. Snagglepuss are quite awesome though and that makes up for the lack of info on the others.. Doors are at 8pm and believe it or not, there is no price listed so you’ll just have to guess on how much money to take with you. I can tell you there is a $2 surcharge for under 21. Otherwise I have no clue.
